General description
L-Glutamic acid/monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium salt of glutamic acid.[1] It is a commonly used food additive.[1]
Application
L-Glutamic acid monosodium salt hydrate has been used:
• to prepare glutamate stock solution in HEPES-buffered saline (HBS) for glutamate perfusions[3]
• as a component in YNG (yeast nitrogen base glutamate) medium[4]
• used to treat HT22 hippocampal cells to study its effects on cell viability and to examine the expression of molecules related to apoptotic cell death[5]
• as a component of fresh media to culture neurons and to assess glutamate uptake[6]
