Parabens are ester derivatives of hydroxybenzoic acid. Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate is a short-chain paraben, suitable for applications in food. It is found in cloudberry, white wine, yellow passion fruit, and bourbon vanilla.[1]

应用

Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate has been used:

to wash mites from the cells of Apis mellifera workers preceding the harvest of mite saliva[2]
as a component of grape/apple juice agar plates to culture Drosophila for the extraction of ovaries/embryos[3][4]
in studies on sterol hormones such as testosterone biosynthesis
