1-Octanol (
n-Octanol) is an ionic liquid
[1] and a linear alcohol having an aromatic odor.It has a relatively high boiling point, low water solubility and moderate viscosity.
[2] It can be synthesized from capric esters via catalytic hydrogenation.
[3] Its oxidative decomposition in the presence of anchored photocatalysts
(anchored
titanium oxide catalysts and standard TiO
2 powder) has been investigated.
[4] Its liquid-phase oxidation to 1-octanal in the presence of Ti/Si binary oxide catalysts has been reported.
[5] It has gained wide recognition as an extraction solvent in analytical chemistry.
