一般描述

Cortistatin-14 is a neuropeptide have structural similarity to somatostatin-14.[1] It is produced in the cortex and hippocampus of central nervous system. In the peripheral system, it is produced in adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid, stomach, intestine, pancreas, testes, liver and kidney.[2]

应用

Cortistatin-14 may be used in competition binding assay with sst4 receptors (CHO-sst4) of CHO cells and sst1 receptors (CHO-sst1).[3]

生化/生理作用

Cortistatin-14, like somatostatin inhibits the physiological activity of hippocampal neurons.[1] It binds and exerts its function through all the somatostatin receptors (sst1-sst5).[2] It shows anticonvulsive and neuroprotective effect.[4] Cortistatin-14 has remarkable anti-inflammatory properties.[3]

Somatostatin-like neuropeptide with neuronal depressant and sleep modulating properties. Exogenous cortistatin impairs short-term memory processing.[5]
