Eplerenone is an aldosterone blocker, which particularly blocks mineralocorticoid receptor. It reduces cardiovascular risk in patients following acute myocardial infarction.[1] Eplerenone is used for treating hypertension and central serous retinopathy.[2][3] It exhibits potassium sparing diuretic effect.[4]

Eplerenone has been used in quantitative real time (RT-qPCR) or western blotting assays.[5]

Eplerenone is an aldosterone antagonist more specific for the mineralocorticoid receptor than spironolactone (S3378), having lower affinity for progesterone, androgen, and glucocorticoid receptors.
