Zirconium(II) hydride (ZrH
2) can be used as a precursor for:
- Reactive hot-pressing synthesis of Zr2SC ceramics by displacement reaction with the mixture of ZrC and ZrS2.[1],·
- The synthesis of Mg-Zr hydrides by treating with MgH2 for hydrogen storage.[2]
- The preparation of layer structured β-zirconium nitride chloride (ZrNCl) by reacting with NH4Cl.[3]
Zirconium(II) hydride (ZrH
2) can be used for the preparation of zirconium diboride (ZrB
2) by the reactive plasma sintering process. It can be used as a neutron shielding material, which finds potential usage in hydrogen storage.
