Sodium chloride can be used as:
- A template to synthesize 2D silicon nanosheets using tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as the silica source. The large surface area of NaCl promotes the formation of large-area SiO2 nanosheets via a self-assembly process.
- A template to prepare tin dioxide (SnO2) hollow nanocubes, which are applicable as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
- A catalyst support in the large-scale synthesis of carbon nanofibers using metal oxalates as catalysts by a chemical vapor deposition method.
