Polypepton is correspondent to casein peptone 2) listed in the item of General Tests and Reagents 1) published in Pharmacopoeia of Japan 13, as well as Pancreatic Digest of Casein listed in the item of reagents of U.S. Pharmacopoeia 3). It is a grayish yellow powder obtained from milk casein by enzymolysis, which is then purified and dried. It is water soluble, but not soluble in ethanol and ether.
