Potassium permanganate (PP, KMnO
4) is a dark violet colored crystalline solid. It is a strong oxidizing agent used in the oxidation of a wide range of organic compounds.
[1] PP is commonly used as a disinfectant to treat external infections in aquaculture.
[2] Corncobs pretreated with alkaline potassium permanganate solution showed high carbohydrate recovery due to the increased enzymatic hydrolysis of lignocellulose.
[3] The acidic potassium permanganate chemiluminescence detection has been employed for the detection of cannabinoids.
